SPC PLANT005 300x300

Common NameEdit

Scientific NameEdit

Bulbobyrum artocosicum

The bulbmoss has a low, spreading growth form, which immediately suggests the way that yeasts and molds grow on Earth - slow spreading around the edges of the organism. The bright red boxes on stalks immediately suggest the capsules of moss - the similarity was so striking that I breifly forgot that we don't even know if these organisms reproduce, much less whether they do so with spores. I'm going to see if I can check one out under the microscope and confirm or deny my hypothesis. - Jan Van Susteren, Exobiology Lead
